15 June 2026

Ngā Tāngata Microfinance Trust is proud to announce two significant achievements recognising its commitment to improving the financial wellbeing of whānau across Aotearoa New Zealand.

At the 2026 Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (MAIAs), Ngā Tāngata Microfinance’s flagship financial capability programme, My Money Kete, received a Special Commendation in the Best Non-Profit Adult Education Project category.

The category results were:

Winner: Credit Canada Gold Financial Coaching (Canada)

Runner-up: Aflatoun’s Brighter Financial Futures (Hong Kong & Singapore)

Special Commendation: Ngā Tāngata Microfinance – My Money Kete (New Zealand)

In addition, Ngā Tāngata Microfinance Trust was recognised in the 2026 MoneyHub Event’s Choice Awards, receiving the award for Favourite Microfinance Service.

General Manager Vijay Farley-Naiker said the awards reflect the collective effort of many people who are committed to supporting financially resilient communities across Aotearoa.

“These awards belong to everyone who has contributed to the success of Ngā Tāngata Microfinance. I would like to acknowledge our founder, Dr Claire Dale, whose vision laid the foundations for our organisation, our Board Chair Racheal Monks, fellow Trustees Ronnie Matafeo, Chris Wong, Craig Manly, Rachel Sorenson and Tapu Vea, and our dedicated team members Olive, Diane and Dorothy. Together, they help shape and strengthen our services and their impact for whānau throughout New Zealand.”

“I also want to thank our financial mentors, partners, funders, supporters and the many organisations that work alongside us. Their commitment and collaboration enables us to reach more people and create lasting positive change.”

My Money Kete was developed to help individuals and families build financial confidence, strengthen money management skills, and take positive control of their financial futures. The programme continues to grow in reach and impact, supporting people through practical, culturally responsive financial capability education.

Neither award nomination was submitted directly by Ngā Tāngata Microfinance, making the recognition particularly meaningful.

Farley-Naiker said “It tells us that our work is valued by those who see the impact firsthand. These awards recognise and confirm the positive difference we are making in the lives of whānau and communities across Aotearoa.”

Ngā Tāngata Microfinance Trust extends its sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to its journey and remains committed to creating pathways to financial wellbeing, inclusion and opportunity for all New Zealanders.
