Ngā Tāngata Microfinance Annual Report 2024
Our new General Manager Vijay Farley-Naiker and Board Chair Racheal Monks and Trustees hosted our Annual General Meeting on Friday. We want to start by acknowledging the incredible work of our whānau, our board, and our partners—those who have been instrumental in driving our kaupapa forward and uplifting our communities, step by step.
A heartfelt thank you to Kiwibank, Booster Foundation, Foundation North, Tech, Ministry of Social Development (MSD), and all of our generous private donors. Your continued support is vital to the success of the mahi we do, and we couldn’t make the impact we do without you.
Ngā Tāngata Microfinance was founded by Dr. Claire Dale with a clear vision: to empower those in our communities who often face barriers to accessing traditional financial systems. For us, finance is not just about numbers—it’s about creating opportunities, building resilience, and fostering independence. Despite the progress we’ve made, we know that many in our communities still face challenges, and we are here to make a real difference.
Reflecting on the past year, We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved:
We received 324 applications through our Financial Mentor network, with 62% of these approved—resulting in 201 loans issued, totalling $603,896.
Our My Money Kete programme now includes 3,085 members learning crucial financial skills through workshops, our Facebook page, workbook, and “My Money Chats.”
And we’re about to launch My Money Kete Friends, a new initiative partnering with other organisations to extend financial education even further.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to launch a new loan type: the Get Control Loan. This product will maintain the same criteria as our previous loans, but with a fresh focus to help more people take control of their financial futures. More details will be shared in the coming months, and we will be running Financial Mentor Hui’s starting in mid-January to train new mentors and share insights about these changes.
With the support of our board, team, and community, we’re confident we’ll continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve. Ngā Tāngata means ‘for the people’ in Māori, and this is at the heart of everything we do—we are committed to leading with care, empathy, and a deep sense of social responsibility.
Thank you again for your ongoing support and for walking this journey with us.
